It all started when I was a young tjokkertjie (translation: toddler). We lived in Louis Trichardt, a small town in South Africa. 

Every now and then, my four-year-old self and my Dad would lie on the grass watching the Hummingbirds as they feast. All their glorious colours. Their majestic, yet elfin wings. The most beautiful magic I have ever seen. 

Today I am 32 years old. Yet, their magic remains. They always bring a smile to my face. The memories: the smell of the grass, the beautiful sky, my hero Dad, and the magical Hummingbirds.
