Farewell

I have known your face for a year. I have seen you daily, sometimes twice.

We smiled at each other and greeted one another often.

I never knew your name. “I can ask tomorrow.” That’s what I thought.

That’s how we go through life. Tomorrow. I will do this thing tomorrow.

Last week you came up to me and asked my name.

Last week we made plans to sneak away from our jobs and go have a drink.

Last week I learned about your love for your kids, your dogs, your Saturdays.

That was last week.

This week you are dead.

You, so full of life. With your sometimes pinkish hair and floral tights. With your biker jacket and sparkle in your eyes.

Our tomorrow never came.

We need to do today what we keep putting off for tomorrow. Tomorrow is never guaranteed. 🍃
